How to configure Outlook app for iOS 11.x (iPhone)

This article was posted in: Email

This article assumes that you have already configured a mailbox using a Krystal cPanel account. To carry out the instructions in this article you will need the Manual Settings for your mailbox. You can obtain these in cPanel > Email Accounts by clicking on the More button next to your mailbox details, and selecting Configure Email Client.

There are two options for IMAP Hostname & SMTP Hostname

There are now two options for setting up your email client. Option 1 is preferred, but does have some prerequisites.

Option 1 - Use mail.your.domain for inbound and outbound mail server (IMAP Hostname and SMTP Hostname)

Prerequisites

Your domain’s A record must be pointing to your Krystal hosting server. If your domain is registered with Krystal then this is likely the case.

You must have SSL enabled for the domain. Once your domain is correctly pointing to Krystal a free LetsEncrypt certificate will be issued automatically.

If you meet these requirements then you can use the format mail.your.domain for the inbound (IMAP Hostname) and outbound (SMTP Hostname) mail servers in the instructions below e.g. if your domain is example.co.uk then you would use mail.example.co.uk as the inbound and outbound mail server names.

This option has the benefit of meaning that should you change hosting servers at any point you won’t need to re-configure any email clients. Once the DNS has updated for your new server A record the clients will continue to be able to send and receive email.

Option 2 - use the server hostname for inbound and outbound mail server

This option has no prerequisites. However, you should be aware that if you use this method, and at a later date change hosting servers you will need to re-configure any email clients.

If you are a reseller this would also impact all your client accounts.

Step 1

Open the Outlook application.

Note:
If this is the first time using the application you will be prompted to enter your email address, see step 2. If you are already using this app for another account then please open the Add Account screen from the apps settings and then see Step 2 onwards.

Step 2

Enter the Email Address you wish to use and click Next. The app will try to autodiscover the settings it needs to use. From testing this will lead to one of a few subsequent outcomes, as below.

Outcome One - Setup Account Manually Button

After a few moments searching for your account the app will provide a "Setup Account Manually" button. Tap it.

Outcome Two - An incorrect assumption as to the account type

Eventually the Outlook app will just presume the account type, i.e. Exchange and ask you to enter the password etc. If you see this page and it displays "IMAP" as the account type then proceed to Step 5. Otherwise, tap the "Not {Type}" link at the top where {Type} equals the type of connection its presumed is correct. See the screenshot for an example.

Step 3 - Select your email provider

Choose IMAP under the advanced heading.

Step 4

Enter the information as follows:

  • Email Address: This should be the full mailbox address you created in cPanel.
  • Password: This will be the password you set for said mailbox in cPanel.
  • Display Name: This is the name that will appear to your recipients when you send out email.
  • Description: How this email address will appear to you within the Outlook app.

Then toggle the "Advanced" switch to On and continue to Step 5..

Step 5 - IMAP Incoming Email Server

Enter the information as follows:

  • IMAP Hostname: This should be set to your Home Server name. This is given in your welcome email and may be different to the one shown. Be sure to add ":993" to the end of this hostname as this is the port we wish the app to use. (Ask support if you unsure of you hostname)
  • IMAP Username: This should be the full email address you created in cPanel.
  • IMAP Password: This will be the password you set for said mailbox in cPanel.

Step 6 - SMTP Outgoing Email Server

Enter the information as follows:

  • SMTP Hostname: This should be set to your Home Server name. This is given in your welcome email and may be different to the one shown. Be sure to add ":465" to the end of this hostname as this is the port we wish the app to use. (Ask support if you unsure of you hostname)
  • SMTP Username: This should be the full email address you created in cPanel.
  • SMTP Password: This will be the password you set for said mailbox in cPanel.

Click "Sign In".

Step 7 - Add Another Account

The app will ask you if you want to add another account. If you do tap Let's do it!, otherwise click Maybe Later.

Step 8

That's it, all done. You should now be able to select the email account in the Outlook app. If this is your first time using this email address and you are yet to receive any email it will look like the above screenshot. If you have email in your account then it start syncing to your device soon afterwards.
