Transferring .uk domains into Krystal
This article was posted in: Domain Names
.uk domains are also known as ccTLDs. A ccTLD is a country code Top Level Domain. ccTLDs are managed within each country by a nominated registration body. In the UK, that body is Nominet. You can visit their website at nominet.org.uk and find out more about their services.
Krystal Hosting Ltd are an authorised registrar for Nominet. Every Nominet registrar has what is called an IPS tag (the exact meaning of IPS has been a bit lost to history).
Krystal's tag is simply (all uppercase) KRYSTAL
Step 1 - Login
Log into your Krystal Client area at http://krystal.co.uk/client and click on DOMAINS > PURCHASE DOMAINS from the main menu. If you don't have a customer account with us yet, just go to http://krystal.co.uk/register and create a new one.
Step 2 - Search for domain availability
Enter your domain in the box provided, and hit Return, or click the magnifying glass icon. Click the Transfer button to add the domain transfer to the cart.
Step 3 - Confirm details
You will be asked to confirm the registrant details. Just enter the existing Registrant information and click Save.
Step 4 - Payment
Continue through the checkout process and complete the order. .uk domain transfers do not cost anything.
Step 5 - Changing the IPS TAG at the existing registrar
The LAST thing to do is to log into your existing domain registrar's control panel, and get the tag changed on your domain. This is where the fun begins, because some registrars make it harder than others to transfer domains away - some even make you go to an entirely separate website to to this!
Some registrars will call this process transferring your domain away and others will simply call it what it is - changing the IPS tag, or simply changing the tag. It varies.
Here are some links to guides on transferring away from other providers:
The tag must be changed to KRYSTAL Once the tag is updated it can take up to 12 hours for the domain to become active in your client area.
